Proton exchange membrane (PEM) is a key material in hydrogen fuel cells and proton exchange membrane water electrolysis equipment. we have achieved, for the first time in China, the mass production of ultrathin reinforced perfluorosulfonic acid proton exchange membranes. Multiple standardized products have been developed for downstream applications, featuring higher proton exchange capacity, strong water retention capability, enhanced water transport capacity, high ionic conductivity, improved mechanical properties, dimensional stability, and durability. Self-produced Key Materials —— Gas Diffusion Layer
Gas diffusion layer (GDL) is a key material in hydrogen fuel cells and proton exchange membrane water electrolysis equipment. We have broken through the core technical bottlenecks and achieved the mass production of high-performance roll-to-roll gas diffusion layers. The above picture shows on-site photos of the Darhan Muminggan (Damao) Banner project.
It is the first demonstration project in China that combines both alkaline electrolyzer and PEM electrolyzer technologies. It connects the processes in the whole industrial chain ranging from wind-solar power generation, green power transmission to green power based hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, hydrogen transportation and hydrogen application and has formed a large-scale electrolyzer process and supporting technologies with independent intellectual property rights. On February 2, 2024, the hydrogen was successfully filled in the first vehicle. On June 26, 2024, this project was pre-accepted and formally handed over to the owner. In Q3, 5 PEM electrolyzers were delivered to realize full-capacity production. This project has Huazhen-1000 alkaline electrolyzer system and Huahan-200 PEM electrolyzer system. The installed capacity of new energies is 200 MW, the hydrogen production capacity is 12,000 Nm³/h, the hydrogen storage capacity is 11 t, and the annual output is 7,800 t.

As a domestically pioneering MW-scale single-stack 3.0 MPa PEM water electrolysis hydrogen production system, this project represents the first commercial application of PEM electrolysis for hydrogen production in high-altitude and severely cold regions in China. It has realized the engineering application of PEM hydrogen production equipment across key materials, core components, devices, and system integration. On April 6, 2024, the system successfully completed a 72-hour continuous trial operation, and in May, it passed independent third-party testing conducted by authoritative domestic and international inspection and certification bodies. Subsequently, on August 12 of the same year, the project successfully accomplished its first hydrogen filling task using the filling system, achieving commercial operation and hydrogen sales. This milestone signifies the full integration of the entire process chain in Delingha, encompassing photovoltaic power generation, green electricity transmission, green hydrogen production via electrolysis, hydrogen storage, and hydrogen transportation, thereby establishing the conditions for commercial production.
During the trial operation period, the complete system operated stably with excellent technical performance. Hydrogen production output remained stable under various operating conditions, with the purity of the produced hydrogen consistently exceeding 99.999%. All operational metrics met the high standards of an "exemplary unit." This project has served as a positive demonstration for China Huadian Corporation Ltd. in building a hydrogen energy industrial ecosystem that integrates technology, industry, and application, carrying significant scientific and technological demonstration value. The project employs a custom-developed PEM water electrolysis hydrogen production system, a flexible PEM electrolysis control system, and a multi-port converter, utilizing the "HuaHan"-200 model product with a hydrogen production capacity of 600 Nm³/h.
